Result
Not measured automatically: colour contrast, whether everything works with the keyboard, whether texts are understandable and whether error messages are clear. An automatic check finds part of the problems. A full audit is done by an expert.
What the law requires
Accessibility has been mandatory for web shops since 28 June 2025
Under the European Accessibility Act, web shops and other sites where consumers buy, sign up or book something must be accessible to people with a disability. This applies to companies with 10 or more employees or more than € 2 million annual turnover. The ACM supervises and looks at the biggest problems first.
Even if you don't have to
If you are smaller, the obligation doesn't apply. But an accessible site is easier for everyone: on a phone in the sun, with a broken arm or for your older customers. And Google reads your site the same way a screen reader does.
Explain what you do
The law also requires you to say how accessible your service is, for example in your terms or in an accessibility statement. Below you create one, based on your check.
No button that fixes everything
Be careful with overlays that promise one script makes your site accessible. Real improvements are in the HTML itself. That is exactly what Edge does: it adjusts the page before it reaches the visitor.
What Netslim Edge fixes
Safe fixes, without touching your site
If your site runs through Netslim Edge, Edge Privacy fixes these issues at the edge, on every page, including pages you create tomorrow.
- Page languageIf the language is missing, Edge adds it, so screen readers pronounce text correctly.
- Zooming allowed againIf your theme blocks zooming on phones, Edge removes that restriction.
- Names for fields and icon buttonsA search field with only placeholder text, a cart or Instagram icon without text: Edge gives them a name.
- Alt text from a readable file nameIf a photo is called rode-fiets-zijkant.jpg and has no alt text, it becomes "rode fiets zijkant". With IMG_1234.jpg we do nothing: no text is better than made-up text.
- Titles for videos and mapsEmbedded YouTube videos, maps and forms get a title.
- Skip to contentAn invisible link that appears as soon as someone starts using the keyboard, to skip the menu.
For sites that run through Netslim Edge. Edge does not make your site fully accessible in one go: contrast, keyboard navigation and clear texts require changes in your site itself. We are happy to help you with that.
Accessibility statement
An honest statement in a minute
Enter your details. If you have run the check, the issues that are not yet fixed are already included. Copy the text to a page on your site, for example /toegankelijkheid/, and link to it in your footer.
Questions
Good to know
Am I compliant with the law after this check?
Not necessarily. The check finds errors that can be detected automatically, on one page. The law covers your whole site or app, and also things like contrast and keyboard navigation. See it as a first step.
Which standard do you use?
The items come from the WCAG, the international accessibility guidelines. Each item shows the success criterion number.
Does the law apply to me?
According to the ACM, it applies to webshops and other sites where consumers buy, sign up or book something, and to communication services, for companies with 10 or more employees or more than € 2 million annual turnover. If you are unsure, read the ACM's guidance or ask a lawyer. We are not lawyers.
Does Edge change my design?
No. The fixes are invisible to regular visitors, except for the "Skip to content" link, which only appears when someone uses the keyboard.
