What we check
Hackers hide well. We compare.
A virus scanner looks for known malware. Hackwacht does something smarter: every file of WordPress and of your plugins has an official checksum at WordPress.org. If a file differs, someone has tampered with it.
WordPress itself
Every file of the WordPress core compared with the original of your version, plus PHP files in wp-admin and wp-includes that don't belong there.
Your plugins
Plugins from WordPress.org compared file by file. Premium or custom plugins and your theme we scan for known signs of malware.
Uploads and hiding places
The uploads folder should never contain PHP. We also check the root and mu-plugins, where hackers like to plant a backdoor.
What Google sees
We open your homepage as a visitor and as Googlebot. Does Google see casino or pill spam that your visitors don't? Then you know why your ranking drops.
An email right away
If we find something, you get an email right away with what is wrong. No weeks of silence until Google marks your site as dangerous.
Nothing on your site
No plugin to install. The check runs from our side on your hosting and doesn't slow your site down.
Clean in one click

To be honest: Hackwacht works for WordPress hosted at Netslim. It restores files. It does not fix malicious code in the database or a stolen password. That is why, after a hack, we always recommend changing the passwords of your admins. If you are unsure, we will take a look with you.
Questions
Good to know
I already have Wordfence. Do I need this?
Wordfence runs inside your WordPress itself. If your site is hacked, the hacker can also get to Wordfence. Hackwacht looks from the outside and compares against the originals from WordPress.org. They complement each other. A new WordPress site from Netslim has Wordfence installed by default.
What if a plugin is not on WordPress.org?
Premium and custom plugins have no public checksums. We scan those for known signs of malware, such as hidden code that is run with eval. You will see what we find next to the plugin.
Can cleaning break my site?
We only restore original files of the same version and move suspicious files to quarantine. We make a backup first. If something does not work afterwards, we will restore it with you.
Does a site with Netslim EdgeTM need this?
Edge Protect sees what passes over the line: infected pages and hidden spam, and removes them for visitors. Hackwacht looks at the files on your hosting. Together they cover both sides.
My site is not at Netslim. Is it still possible?
Hackwacht needs access to your hosting and therefore works for WordPress at Netslim. Moving is free and without downtime.
