How it works

2. We move everything
Files and database go in parts straight from your old server to your new hosting. Theme, plugins, uploads, users and settings come along. wp-config.php with your passwords never moves.
3. Check it on a test address
We check your site on the new server and show it to you on its own test address. Meanwhile, visitors simply see your old site. You can take your time to click around, log in and compare.
4. Switch the DNS
If your DNS is with us, we switch it with one click, or tonight at 04:00. If it's elsewhere, you see exactly which records to change, and we notice automatically when it's done.
No downtime
Your old site keeps running until the last second
We don't change anything on your old site. Only when your new site is ready and you've seen it does the address switch. Visitors won't notice a thing.
- If your DNS is with us, we set the TTL low as soon as the migration starts, so the switch is live everywhere within a quarter of an hour
- Right before the switch, we copy over the latest changes. Orders, posts and uploads from your old site come along.
- We only switch the address of your website. Your email stays where it is.
- Does your email point to your domain name? Then we first make sure it keeps arriving at your old server.
- We remove rules from your old server in .htaccess (firewall, paths), so nothing gets stuck.
- We keep your own settings from wp-config.php, such as a memory limit or license key.
- Right after the switch, we request the SSL certificate.
What happens in your account
- Connect. The plugin contacts us. From then on, you see every step live.
- Files and database. With a counter: this many files out of that many, table this many out of that many.
- Check. Home page, title, number of pages and logging in to WordPress.
- Test address and DNS. Look at your site, switch the DNS, and you get an email when it is live everywhere.

What we do by hand
Email addresses
We move mailboxes by hand, so no message gets lost. Select it when you set up your move, and we will plan it with you. Until then, your email keeps working as usual.

No WordPress, or would you rather have us do it? Give us your login details. We store them encrypted and delete them as soon as the move is done. You will hear from us within one business day.

Frequently asked questions
What does moving to Netslim cost?
Nothing. Moving is free with every hosting plan, even when we do it by hand. You only pay for your hosting.
Will my site go down during the move?
No. Your old site keeps running. We set up your site next to the old one on the new server, you check it on a test address, and only then does the DNS switch. Because we lower the TTL beforehand, visitors see the new server within fifteen minutes to an hour.
How long does a move take?
A standard WordPress site is usually on the test address within ten minutes to an hour. A large web shop with many photos takes longer. In your account you can see exactly how far along we are.
Which hosts can I move from?
From any host where you run WordPress: the plugin works everywhere. With cPanel, DirectAdmin or Plesk, we can also do it for you with your login details. We prefer to rebuild a site on Wix or Squarespace. Feel free to ask us what that costs.
What about orders or messages that come in during the move?
Your old site keeps working, so those come in there. Right before the switch, we transfer the database and the new files once more, so they come along. If your DNS is not with us, click "Transfer latest version" in your account right before you change the DNS. Do you have a busy web shop? Then choose to switch at 04:00, when it is quiet.
What happens to my email?
We don't touch it. We only switch the address of your website. If your email points to your domain itself, we first make sure it keeps arriving. If you also want your mailboxes moved to us, we do that by hand and plan it with you.
What if something goes wrong?
Then the move stops and you can see why in your account. Nothing has changed on your old site. You can try again, or click "Let us do it" and one of us will take over.
Is it safe?
Yes. The plugin only acts on a signed request from us, everything is sent encrypted from server to server, and wp-config.php with your database password is never included. Whatever the plugin sets up is removed after the move, after 48 hours, or when you turn it off.
Do I have to cancel my old hosting myself?
Yes, you do that yourself with your old host, once you are sure everything works. Wait a week before you do, and move your email first if it is still there. You can also move your domain name to Netslim, with the transfer code.
