Edge Translate: your site in more languages
How to turn on a language, what the edge does then, how to review translations and addresses, and where the language switcher is.

You can find Edge Translate in your account under Edge › Translate. For each language you turn on, your site also exists at /en/ (or /de/, /fr/ …). The edge, which already sits in front of your site, translates each page on the way to the visitor from a translation memory. Nothing changes on your own server. You don't need a plugin or a second site.
Turn on a language
- Under Languages, choose the language and add it to your cart (€ 29 per language per month, per site).
- After you pay, click Translate everything now. Every known page then goes through the translator. For an average site, this takes an hour. Until a piece of text is translated, you still see it in the source language.
- Under Review, check the texts you find important. Your correction always wins and is on your site within a minute.
What the edge handles
- Translated addresses: not /en/over-ons/ but /en/about-us/. Old addresses redirect. You can edit every slug yourself under Addresses.
- Google: hreflang in both directions, a canonical per language and a sitemap per language at
/netslim-en.xml(also listed in your robots.txt). Search engines are never redirected. - Language switcher: by default a slim NL | EN at the top. Would you rather have it in your own menu? Put
<div class="nsl-lang-here"></div>there and under Settings choose “only in the place I point out myself”. - Browser language: if someone visits for the first time with an English browser, they see English right away. The choice is remembered in a cookie.
- Forms and web shop work as usual. They go to your own server, and only the text around them is translated. Amounts and dates use the format of the language.
What is not translated
Code, form fields, email addresses, domain names, numbers and everything with translate="no". Names in your glossary (brand, products) always stay as they are. Text that a script only builds in the browser is not seen by the edge. It stays in the source language.
Good to know
- New or changed text automatically goes into the waiting room and is translated within minutes.
- If you turn off a language, the translated pages disappear. We keep the memory, so you can pick up again later where you left off.
- Edge Translate only works if your site runs live through Netslim Edge.
