Trackers only after consent (GDPR)

See which trackers load before your visitor agrees, and let the edge hold them back until your cookie banner says yes.

1 min read · updated 12 Oct 2026

Under the GDPR, trackers such as Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel and Hotjar may only load once your visitor gives consent. In practice, they often load earlier, for example because a plugin adds them separately from your cookie banner.

What you'll see

Under Edge › Security, trackers before consent shows which trackers load straight away, and whether we found a cookie banner.

Hold back until consent

Turn on Trackers only after consent. The edge then puts the trackers on hold and starts them as soon as your cookie banner gives consent. This works with Cookiebot, Complianz and CookieYes. If you use your own banner, enter the name of the consent cookie.

Then run a quick test: open your site in a private window, decline the cookies and check that your statistics no longer count the visit. Give consent and check that they come in again.
