Which record does what, and which ones you need for your site and email.

DNS is the address book of the internet. With DNS records, you tell it where your website and email should go.
The most important records
- A: points your domain to an IP address (your web server).
- CNAME: points a subdomain to another name, for example
wwwto your main domain. - MX: tells where your email arrives (e.g. Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace).
- TXT: for verification and security, such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
How quickly is a change visible?
Usually within a few minutes, sometimes up to a few hours. This depends on the TTL (how long other servers remember the old answer).
Change it yourself in your portal
If your domain is with us, you can change the records yourself under Domains › Manage DNS. You paste records from a service like SendGrid or Microsoft 365 in one go with Bulk paste. See Managing DNS records in your portal.
Prefer not to do it yourself?
Send us a message with the service you want to connect. We set the records correctly and check that everything works.
